This weekend, many of you will be revising your writing for sentence openers.  However, you won't have the list of prepositions on the wall to look at so you might want to use this list here.

We've been studying something called sentence openers this week.  They can be confusing to use, but they are worth it because they make our writing more fluent, clear, and interesting.  Check out the video below to get a little "one-on-one" help from your teacher if you are having trouble.  Parents, you might also want to view the video to see what your child will be working on for the rest of this year.

You can also download printable Sentence Opener guide here, or go to Helpful Tools and find it under Language Arts Helpers.

This last Sunday, my pastor was encouraging our congregation to pick up a Bible reading plan for the new year.  There were four really interesting reading plans that he told us about, but I could only find a good link to one.  Luckily, it's a great one for families.

It's a plan designed by R. M. M'Cheyne where you and your family read through the New Testament and Psalms twice and the Old Testament once in one year.  Every day you read two chapters together as a family and then two chapters independently.  Here is a link to M'Cheyene's Bible Reading Plan.  I hope it is helpful for some of you.

My pastor also recommended picking up For the Love of God, a devotional based on the M'Cheyne reading plan, written by D.A. Carson.

By the way, I've heard from a couple of you in passing about how you do family devotionals. I know it probably seems really simple and unremarkable to you, but I know it's always been a great encouragement for me to hear how different families read the Bible and pray together.  I was thinking, if you don't mind, that you could comment on this post with how you do devotions in your family.  It might be helpful to others, and I know it will be helpful to Mrs. Swedberg and I when we have a family of our own... someday. :)

If this doesn't get you excited for class, I don't know what will. :)
