This last Sunday, my pastor was encouraging our congregation to pick up a Bible reading plan for the new year.  There were four really interesting reading plans that he told us about, but I could only find a good link to one.  Luckily, it's a great one for families.

It's a plan designed by R. M. M'Cheyne where you and your family read through the New Testament and Psalms twice and the Old Testament once in one year.  Every day you read two chapters together as a family and then two chapters independently.  Here is a link to M'Cheyene's Bible Reading Plan.  I hope it is helpful for some of you.

My pastor also recommended picking up For the Love of God, a devotional based on the M'Cheyne reading plan, written by D.A. Carson.

By the way, I've heard from a couple of you in passing about how you do family devotionals. I know it probably seems really simple and unremarkable to you, but I know it's always been a great encouragement for me to hear how different families read the Bible and pray together.  I was thinking, if you don't mind, that you could comment on this post with how you do devotions in your family.  It might be helpful to others, and I know it will be helpful to Mrs. Swedberg and I when we have a family of our own... someday. :)

I usually do devotions by myself. I have a devotional book and I am also doing a Bible reading plan where I read about 3 chapters a day and in 12 weeks I will have finished the New Testemant.

We do a family devotion time at dinner. We have gone through a few different books. Little Visits-365 Family Devotions, the Jesus Storybook Bible, now we are reading Jesus Calling-365 devotions for kids......then we talk about what it means and we pray for the lesson to be planted in our hearts and we also pray for our kids we sponsor around the world.
