Watch the video below to see how to meet all the short story publishing expectations from the previous post.

Your published short story must have the following features:
- 12 pt. font
- Times New Roman or Arial
- Double Spaced (Format / Line Spacing / 2.0)
- Heading or Title Page (Title, Author, Date)
- Cover with title and author

Here is a quick video to review how to use Google Docs to work on projects from school and home.

Hooking your reader from the beginning of a short story is really important.  Here is a summary of some of the ways we discussed in class that you might hook your reader:
- action
- something unusual
- something unexpected
- something that makes us ask a question (a knowledge gap)
- conflict

Remember, your homework for tonight is to write down the hook from a story of your choice.  It might be a book you have or a movie you've watched.  Come to class tomorrow with a written example of a hook, and see if you can say why it is an effective hook.

The Requirements:
  • All of the story arc must be present
  • Your story must be told from the first person in the form of journal entries
  • Your story must be at least ten entries long
  • Must be set during WWII
The Options:
  • Your journal entries may be poetry if you choose
  • Your story can be as long as you like
  • Think about including literary devices and symbolism to make your story more interesting

Revising Websites

5/18/2010

In addition to revising for fluency and organization on your website, think about these new aspects of revision that are more closely connected to website creation:

Consistent Text
Make sure to use capital letters, headings, bold words etc consistently throughout your site.

Home Page Hook
How are you going to grab your readers attention with the first thing they see?  Can I tell what your point is within 3 seconds of being on your site?  Do I want to keep reading?

Credit and Links
Make sure to give credit and link to content you get from others.

Two days ago, we discussed what the expectations for your SCOPE websites should be.  I've taken all of your suggestions and combined them into three larger categories:

Ideas and Content
Fully developed (at least three paragraphs) ideas
Persuasive ideas
Ideas in your own words

Fluency, Clarity and Structure
Sentence Openers
Transitions
Who/Which Clauses
Conventions
Word Choice

Use of Website Capabilities

EtherPad Clones

5/4/2010

Since EtherPad is no longer allowing new pads to be created, here are a couple alternatives (clones) we might try as a class:

http://ietherpad.com/

In the past, we've tried these two with no success:
