Another Poll

5/20/2011

Here's another poll you can answer to help out Tanner: http://earthcleanup.weebly.com/

Today and tomorrow you will be joining forces with three classmates to do some "Lightning Research" on your assigned topic.  You will have only 75 minutes (two class periods) to create a slide presentation to show the class on Monday.

You may choose how to organize your information, but you may want to try one of these formats:
- Who, What, When, Where, Why, How
- Important Things, Interesting Things
- A Timeline of Events
- Some Combination of the Above

The Rules:
  1. Everyone contributes.
  2. You may use only words the first day.
  3. You may add images and video the last 30 minutes of the second day.
  4. You may work on formating and appearance the last 15 minutes of the second day.
  5. You may work on images, video, formating etc. on your own time as much as you want.

The Groups:
Pearl Harbor - Luke, Rebecca, Jake, Alyssa, Andrew
The Nazis and Hitler - Cam, Stephanie, Ciera, Jacob, Megan
The Holocaust - Austin, Abby, Conor, Abbie
D-Day - Tanner, Sam, Kelly, Anna

On a website, you should think about your home page as the introduction paragraph of your essay.  However, we are building a website, not writing an essay.  That means that to make your writing as effective as possible, you'll need to write for your new format.

Forget the official format of an introductory paragraph and instead think about the purpose of an introductory paragraph.  In my thinking, you include an introduction in an essay for two main purposes:
  • to hook your reader and
  • to introduce your topic
How can you grab your reader's attention quickly with a website?  What tools do you have available to you?  How can you use:
  • words
  • pictures
  • links
  • video
  • color
  • design
...to catch your reader's attention and get them interested in your topic from the very beginning?

Here's one example I found: The Water Project website.

What do you notice about their website?  How do they grab your attention?

Before the field trip tomorrow, please be sure to get your book kit finished and turned in.
