As of today, I have received all of the student's business letters.  If you haven't seen the feedback I gave your child yet, ask to have a look.  Most of the letters could stand to be revised on one way or another.  And since it takes us so long to go through the writing process, these major writing assignments stand for much more of a student's grade than other assignments.

When we get back from break, I would love to see that a number of students have taken my feedback and used it to improve their writing.  In fact, what is the point of all this feedback if students don't use it to improve?

In Language Arts, students can always turn in a paper a second or third time to demonstrate growth in some area.   If your child isn't sure how to add sentence openers, transitions, or something else, you can always use the Language Arts helpers at the top of the Helpful Tools page.  And of course, students can always set up a time to meet with me after break and get one on one instruction if they need it.

Advice from investors for tomorrow:
  1. Think about what it takes to sell your product each step of the way.  What are the steps and who is responsible for each of them?
  2. Don't forget to factor in your salaries.

...and a bonus tip that the investors wont tell you:
  1. If you have a highly desired design, be ready to play the investors against each other

Do you want to create a company?
Do you want to own the company or sell it?
Do you want to partner with the investors?
Do you want their expertise?

I'm not sure if we should expect all the parents or no one to show up tomorrow and Wednesday.  If you're thinking about stopping in between 10:30 and 12:00 Tuesday or Wednesday, could you let me know so I can try to have enough chairs set up?

Thanks!

Students received feedback on their business letters today.  One of the main things we need to work on as a class is using all six types of sentences openers.  Most people seem to be having the most trouble with "-ing" sentence openers.  The following video may help help explain how to use sentence openers to those students who would like to use my feedback to improve their letter.

By the way, when a student improves, that improvement is recorded on their report card, so it's totally worth taking another look at a paper that has already been turned in once.

Parents, ask your child how they did on their business letter.  Ask them what they did well, and what they could improve upon.  Then encourage them to use my feedback to improve.

I didn't do a very good job of reminding students about their quiz this week, so we moved it to Monday.  It will be matching 10 words to their definitions.

I wrote about SCRIPS before, but now I have an order form I can send your way.  I just got an update today that the school has made $3,000 in sales so far.  You can download the form below and then bring it into the SCRIPS ladies in the morning. :)
